Remote consultation using open source software reinforced with web application in Tele-radiology: A real hospital practice

Abstract
Purpose: Diagnostic imaging methods are one of the main tools of modern medicine. Imaging equipment and patient demand is increasing rapidly. However, the number of medical professionals to evaluate the resulting images is inadequate. To answer this demand, we aimed to use Teleradiology.
Materials and Methods: Teleradiology connection between Muğla Milas State Hospital (MDH) that serves approximately 130,000 populations and Denizli Servergazi State Hospital (SDH) is made using open source OsiriX software. Digital images obtained from Magnetic Resonance (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT) and mammography (MG) devices in MDH have been transferred to OsiriX installed workstation in SDH using the DICOM standards. Images are reported by SDH radiology doctors and were sent by e-mail. The installation cost of the system was realized as TL 4,000.
Results: From November 2015 until the end of April 2016 monthly 2,000 MR, CT and MG image transferred and reported. This process has not been notified that threaten patient safety and any technical problems in the system.
Conclusion: Teleradiology system made using an open source software may be safe and cost effective. It may facilitate use our resource of medical professionals flexibly and efficiently.

Teleradyoloji web uygulaması ile güçlendirilmiş açık kaynak kodlu yazılım kullanarak uzaktan konsültasyon: Gerçek bir hastane uygulaması

Ozet
Amaç: Görüntüleme yöntemleri modern tıbbın temel tanı araçlarındandır. Görüntüleme cihazları ve hasta talepleri hızla artmaktadır. Ancak elde edilen görüntüleri değerlendirebilecek profesyonel uzman hekim sayısı yetersizdir. Bu talebe cevap verebilmek için bir teleradyoloji uygulaması geliştirmeyi amaçladık.
Materyal ve metot: Yaklaşık 130000 nüfuslu bölgeye hizmet veren Muğla Milas Devlet Hastanesi (MDH) ile Denizli Servergazi Devlet Hastanesi (SDH) arasında açık kaynak kodlu Osirix yazılımı kullanılarak Teleradyoloji bağlantısı yapılmıştır. MDH’deki Magnetik Rezonans (MR), Bilgisayarlı Tomografi (BT) ve Mamografi (MG) cihazlarındaki görüntüler dicom standartları ile SDH’deki Osirix yüklü iş istasyonuna aktarıldı. Görüntüler SDH radyoloji uzmanlarınca raporlanarak e-posta ile gönderilmiştir. Sistemin kurulum maliyeti 4000 TL olarak gerçekleşmiştir.
Bulgular: 2015 Kasım ayından 2016 Nisan ayına kadar aylık 2000 adet MR, BT ve MG görüntüsü aktarılmış ve raporlanmıştır. Bu süreçte sistemde teknik arıza ve hasta güvenliğini tehdit eden bildirim olmamıştır.
Sonuç: Açık kaynak yazılımları kullanılarak yapılan tele radyoloji güvenli ve maliyet etkin bir sistem olabilmekte, uzman hekim kaynaklarımızı esnek ve verimli kullanmamızı kolaylaştırabilmektedir.
